09/26/13 – Free health insurance workshop at your library this evening

Renee Burch from San Juan Basin
Health Department will explain your new insurance options under the Affordable
Care Act (“Obamacare”) and discuss how to access the new online marketplace to compare
and shop for individuals, families and small employers.  She’ll also answer your questions.

            This
session is free and no registration required.

 

Free technology classes

            Meg
Wempe is available for the highly popular Tech Tuesdays and Thursdays sessions
10-noon Tuesdays and 3-5 p.m. Thursdays. 
Join her for one-on-one informal help with your computer or tablet
issues.  More formal sessions include Computer
Basics next Monday, September 30 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. and Microsoft Word
Basics on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.  These classes require advance registration.

 

Free Spanish classes

            The second of a six-week Spanish class takes place on Wednesday, October 2 from
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. for all ages taught by Roberta Strickland.  The book used in class costs $8 and can be
purchased at the library.  Registration
is required.  You do not have to attend
all sessions to participate.

 

Free games for tweens tomorrow

            Fourth thru sixth
graders are welcome to a free Tween Gaming session from 2 – 3:15 p.m. tomorrow
(Friday, September 27).

 

Free crafts for teens

            “Make It!” is a
crafts session for teens that takes place on Monday, September 23 from 4 – 5
p.m. and on the fourth Monday of every month. 
This event is for seventh-12th graders only.

 

Free teen gaming

            Every
Tuesday from 4 – 5:30 p.m. (note new day and time) we host Teen Gaming (X-box,
Wii, board games and Pokemon Card Battles, and you are welcome to bring other
trading card battle games.  Snacks
provided.

Justice” by Anne Perry is the latest in the William Monk mystery series set in Victorian
London.  “The Darling Dahlias and the
Texas Star” by Susan Wittig Albert is the latest in the Darling Dahlias mystery
series.  “How the Light Gets In” by

Quebec.  “The Night is Alive” by Heather Graham is a

            “The Infatuations”
by the award-winning Spanish writer Javier Marias is a murder mystery set in Madrid.  “The Kill List” by Frederock Forsyth is an
intelligence thriller featuring an agency in Northern Virginia that tracks and
kills those most dangerous to the U.S.  “Tamarack
County” by William Kent Krueger is a
mystery set in a wilderness town in Minnesota.  “Let Me Go” by Chelsea Cain is a thriller
about a female serial killer.”Night Film” by Marisha Pessl” is a thriller
involving a reclusive director of sult horror films.           

             

Other fiction

            The Husband’s
Secret” by Liane Moriarty follows a woman who reads a letter from her husband
she was not supposed to see until his death. 
“Lookaway, Lookaway” by Wilton Barnhardt is a satire of high society in North Carolina.  “Sweet Thunder” by Ivan Doig tells of a
small-town newspaper editor fighting for miners against a ruthless copper
mining company.

 

Nonfiction

            “Manson:
The Life and Times of Charles Manson” by Jeff Guinn is the biography of this
notorious murderer.  “Coming Clean” by
Kimberly Rae Miller is the story of a woman who grew up in a home with her
hoarder father.  “The New Jim Crow” by
legal scholar Michelle Alexander challenges the premise that the election of
Barack Obama signals a new era of colorblindness.

 

DVDs

            “Beauty and the
Beast” is a special two-disc edition provides three versions of the film and a
tour of the Beast’s castle.  “The
Outsiders” is a movie about two gangs directed by Francis Ford Coppola.  “Beyond Borders” is a romantic adventure
starring Angelina Jolie.  “Kingdom of Heaven” is an action-packed adventure
from the director of “Gladiator” and “Black Hawk Down.”  “Hondo” is a western starring John
Wayne.
