People of all ages are welcome at Camp Out Read Out to kickoff the Summer Reading Program and enjoy a day of reading, storytime, crafts, educational displays, hands-on activities, camping-skills demonstrations, and so much more at Camp Out Read Out on Saturday, June 3rd. We are partnering with Pagosa Ranger District of the San Juan US Forest Service to offer this new and exciting event to celebrating literacy and the great outdoors.
The open-house event will offer activities throughout the day for children, tweens/teens, adults and families. Come for an hour or stay for the day and enjoy reading in our hammocks and camping tents. Enjoy various crafts and educational display tables. We'll even have snacks including the opportunity to make a small solar oven to bake s'mores outdoors.
Rangers from the San Juan National Forest office will be onsite leading interactive presentations to teach camping and survival skills including how to set up a tent, how to make a bear bag, how to read a trail map and compass, how to become a junior range and so much more. Other activities will include a scavenger hunt through the library for prizes, educational displays, storytime, and outdoor games such as "Don't Feed the Bears".
Smokey Bear will be visiting from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm for photos and to share some important fire safety information. Don't miss your opportunity to take home a polaroid photo with Smokey Bear! We will also have puppet storytime and Read with a Ranger storytime. The event is free and open to the public.
