Losing Wilderness — Loving to Death
Presenter: Stacy Boone
The Wilderness Act was created in 1964 as “an enduring resource of wilderness” for the “preservation of their wilderness character.” This discussion ponders our current ethic and the social and individual impact we may be placing on these undeveloped public lands. Are our actions having a consequence that may be resulting in our losing the wilderness simply by our use? Does our perception of wilderness impact our behavior or acceptance of the preservation value? Have we outgrown this protection? Stacy is the owner and lead guide for Step Outdoors, a local backpacking company that guides clients to gain knowledge, skills and confidence in an outdoor setting.
